Puzzle Philosophy

Gloomwood's puzzles are designed to be logical and fair. The solutions are always hinted at in the environment — notes, patterns, or visual clues. If you're stuck, look around carefully before consulting this guide.

Prison Puzzles

The Cell Block Gate

Location: First cell block, after the starting cell.
Solution: The gate is controlled by a lever in the guard room. You need to find the Guard Room Key, which is on a hook in the break room. Use the key to enter the guard room and pull the lever.

The Warden's Safe

Location: Warden's office, second floor.
Solution: The combination is written on a note in the warden's desk drawer. The code is 3-7-1. Contains the Prison Exit Key.

Manor Puzzles

The Bookcase Door

Location: Count's study, Manor Estate.
Solution: Pull the book titled "Anatomy of the Soul" (third shelf from the top, fifth book from the left). The bookcase swings open to reveal the hidden laboratory.

The Wine Cellar Lock

Location: Manor Estate basement.
Solution: The lock requires three symbols to be aligned. The symbols are found on wine bottles throughout the cellar. Align them in this order: Grapes, Crown, Skull.

The Clock Tower Mechanism

Location: Clock Tower, Streets District.
Solution: Set the clock hands to 3:15 (the time written on a note in the tower keeper's quarters). This unlocks a compartment containing Golden Bullets.

Sewer Puzzles

The Water Gate

Location: Main sewer junction.
Solution: There are three valves. Turn them in this order: Left valve (full turn), Right valve (half turn), Center valve (full turn). This redirects the water flow and opens the gate.

The Flooded Passage

Location: Deep sewers.
Solution: You need to find the Drain Key to lower the water level. The key is in a submerged chest in the adjacent room. Use a lockpick if you don't have the key.

General Puzzle Tips

  • Read everything. Notes, letters, and journal entries often contain puzzle solutions.
  • Look for patterns. Many puzzles use visual patterns — symbols, colors, or numbers that repeat.
  • Listen carefully. Some puzzles have audio cues. A ticking sound might indicate a clock mechanism nearby.
  • Use your tools. The crowbar can open more than just doors. The wrench can turn valves.
