Early Game Route

The optimal early game route starts at the central hub. Head to the Forgotten Catacombs first — it is the easiest area and has the most upgrade materials. Clear the catacombs, grab the Rusty Key from the boss room, then head to the Scorched Valley. The valley has a merchant that sells the first spell and a blacksmith that can upgrade your weapon to +2. Do not skip the side path to the Moonlit Gardens — there is a hidden bonfire and a ring that increases soul drops.

After the Moonlit Gardens, return to the hub and upgrade your gear. You should have enough Rusty Ore for at least a +3 weapon by now. The next stop is the Twilight Pass entrance. Do not go deep yet — just grab the bonfire at the entrance and head back. Your goal in the early game is to build a solid foundation: a +3 weapon, the fire spell, and at least 10 health potions in reserve.

Mid Game Route

Mid game opens up after you defeat the second boss. Your priority should be unlocking the airship fast travel system. The airship dock is in the Twilight Pass, but you need to clear the area first. The pass is tough — bring fire resistance items and a ranged weapon. Once the airship is unlocked, you can fast travel between major zones. Use this to complete side quests efficiently. The Lost Scholar quest in particular rewards you with the best magic weapon in the game.

With the airship unlocked, your route becomes more flexible. I recommend clearing the Poison Swamp next for the Mad Hermit quest and the Shadow armor set. Then tackle the Abyssal Depths entrance area for soul farming. Save the deeper parts of the Abyssal Depths for late game. Between major zones, return to the hub to upgrade gear and restock consumables.

Late Game Route

The late game route focuses on preparation for the final bosses. Farm the Abyssal Depths for souls and upgrade materials. Complete the Forgotten Hero questline for the best armor set. Defeat the Wandering Knight all three times for the stamina ring. Then tackle the bosses in this order: Abyssal Horror, Void Knight, and finally the final boss. Save the optional super-boss for after you beat the game.

Before the final boss, make sure you have at least 20 health potions, 10 mana restoratives, and a +10 weapon. The final boss has three phases and each phase requires different tactics. Phase one is a standard melee duel. Phase two introduces adds that you need to kill quickly. Phase three is a DPS check — if you cannot kill the boss fast enough, the arena fills with void damage.

Loot Collection Routes

For loot collection, follow this route: start at the central hub and head to the Forgotten Catacombs. There are 6 chests here, including one hidden behind a waterfall. Next, go to the Scorched Valley — 8 chests, including one that requires the Rusty Key. Then the Moonlit Gardens — 5 chests, but one only spawns at night. The Twilight Pass has 7 chests, and the Abyssal Depths has 10. Total: 36 chests, well over halfway to the Treasure Hunter achievement.

For lore books, the route is different. Start with the three books in the central hub (one in the Elder's house, one in the library, one in the blacksmith's basement). Then head to the Forgotten Catacombs for two books. The Scorched Valley has three books, but one is behind a locked door. The Moonlit Gardens has two books. The Twilight Pass has three books. The Abyssal Depths has two books. Total: 15 lore books.

Boss Rush Routes

For boss rushing, the optimal order is: Giant Rat (easiest), Skeleton Lord (requires fire damage), Witch of the Woods (bring antidotes), Abyssal Horror (requires dark resistance), Void Knight (requires high DPS), and the Final Boss (bring everything). Between each boss, rest at the hub and restock on consumables. The Homeward Bell is invaluable for quick returns after each boss kill.

For the optional bosses, tackle them in this order: Cursed Knight (Scorched Valley, requires +5 weapon), Shadow Beast (Poison Swamp, requires dark resistance), and the Ancient Golem (Abyssal Depths, requires +8 weapon). The super-boss, the Void Entity, is found in a hidden arena in the Twilight Pass. It requires max-level gear and perfect play. Save it for

NG+ if you are struggling.
