Boss AI Bugs

Boss AI bugs are the most common issues in Emberbane. Here's how to deal with them.

The Warden — AI Freeze

This is the most famous bug in Emberbane. If you stand on the exact center of the Warden's arena when the fight starts, the boss's AI breaks and it doesn't attack. This is actually used by speedrunners as a skip. But if it happens accidentally, it can be confusing. The fix: leave the arena and come back. The boss resets when you re-enter.

The Sentinel — Phase Skip Failure

The Sentinel has a mechanic where you can skip phase 2 by dealing enough damage in phase 1. But sometimes the phase skip doesn't trigger even when you've dealt enough damage. This is caused by a damage threshold bug. The fix: make sure you're using abilities, not just basic attacks. Abilities deal more damage per hit and are more likely to trigger the skip.

The Ember King — Attack Desync

Sometimes the Ember King's attack animations desync from the actual hitboxes. The boss swings, but the hitbox is delayed by about 0.5 seconds. This makes dodging unpredictable. The fix: dodge based on the sound cue, not the visual cue. The sound plays at the correct timing even when the animation is desynced.

Physics Glitches

Emberbane's physics engine is generally solid, but there are some issues.

Wall Run Stuck

Sometimes you get stuck on a wall after a wall run. You can't move or jump. This is caused by the game failing to register that you've left the wall. The fix: press the dodge button. This cancels the wall run state and lets you move again.

Falling Through the Floor

In rare cases, you can fall through the floor in the Tower section. This happens when you land on a specific spot where two floor tiles meet. The fix: if you fall through, you'll respawn at the last safe position. To avoid it, don't land on the seams between floor tiles.

Dash Through Walls

Your dash can sometimes clip through thin walls. This is actually useful for speedruns, but it can also happen accidentally. If you dash through a wall and end up in a geometry void, use the "Reset Position" option in the pause menu.

Performance Issues

Emberbane is well-optimized, but some areas can be demanding.

Low FPS in the Ember Forest

The Ember Forest has the most particle effects in the game, which can cause FPS drops. Lower particle quality to Medium and disable motion blur. This should bring your FPS back up.

Stuttering During Boss Fights

Boss fights can stutter when the boss transitions between phases. This is caused by the game loading phase-specific assets. The fix: disable VSync and cap your framerate at 60 FPS.

Audio Crackling

Some players report audio crackling during combat. This is caused by too many sound effects playing simultaneously. The fix: reduce sound effect volume to 80% in the audio settings. This reduces the number of concurrent sound effects.

Save Issues

Emberbane uses an autosave system with manual save support.

Lost Progress After Crash

If the game crashes, you might lose progress since your last save. Emberbane autosaves at checkpoints and when you enter new areas. To minimize progress loss, manually save before boss fights.

Save File Corruption

Save corruption is rare but possible. If your save is corrupted, navigate to %appdata%/Emberbane/saves/ and look for backup files. Delete the corrupted file and rename the .bak file.

Cloud Save Conflicts

If you play on multiple devices, cloud save conflicts can occur. Steam Cloud syncs your saves automatically, but if you close the game without giving Steam time to sync, you might lose progress. Always wait for the Steam Cloud icon to disappear before closing the game.

🏆 Final Pro Tip: The Warden AI freeze bug is the most well-known glitch in Emberbane. The developers have said they're aware of it but haven't patched it because the community uses it for speedruns. If you want to experience the fight as intended, don't stand on the center of the arena.
